I have found a personal meaning for this song... It's about me and the girl I am now with. But basically my freshman year, which was like a very hard, difficult and strange year for me (my dad died, i changed alot, i learned alot, i found out a lot more about myself and the world, and ever since then i am constantly reminising about that year i dont know), but the first time i saw her, i just had this feeling, and i've never had it before in my life, it still gets to me just thinking about it, but i saw her, and she was so beautiful, i think we had lockers in the same hall, and it was the beginning of school and i looked down the hall, it was just me and her, and she looked back, it wasn't the nicest look i got but it made me wonder and it left me dwelling on it, i wasn't like constantly thinking about her but everytime i saw her or heard about her i'd remember. but i remember that year i started listening to deftones, and the first cd i got was around the fur, i was listening to Mascara once, and i was writing this novel story kind of thing, and i kinda imagined the song being in it, like this one guy i kinda based myself off of seeing this girl walk by him and give him this glare and he was infatuated with her, and for me, everytime i listened to the song, my gf's face was what i was seeing, she was walking by looking at me, glaring at me almost as if she felt the same thing i did but maybe not as serious, 'cause their something about her...' i always thought there was something about her, it had to be something that struck me. But i heard all this shit about her, like i heard she was a whore and a slut and all this shit, and soon my friends started being friends with her, and that gave me a way to maybe talk to her. but like in the song, chino sees faults with this girl hes with 'i hate your tattoos' 'you have weak wrists', my gf obviously wasn't perfect and she actually does have small weak wrists, and every word matches with my story. 'i feel soon, i will sink into you', i feel soon i'll fall in love with you, 'what do you think?' i wonder if she'll think that's wack or if she'll be ok with it... 'there's still blood in your hair' almost like she's just warn down from the other people she's been with and its almost like sexually she's been scarred, 'i've got the bruise of the year' this year has been hard on me i have so many 'mental' scars to show it, 'i'm all about her, shade tonite', i was all about her, there was a certain shade to her. 'well it's too bad your married to me', we eventually got so close, by the end of the school year, my band had a show in my backyard with my friends band who she knew, and she came, and we started talking kinda and i went to her house shortly after and things went from there, we went out for a long time and we were so close and i hurt her alot cause i was seriously troubled from my dads death and it took me a long time to grieve and unfortunately she was so close to me that she was a part of it, so it's too bad she went thru it. we're still together tho, it's been over a year.

First off, nice tribute. Deftones rock. Around the Fur is a song for the ages preaching the well known message, "There's more to me than just the fame." The fur consists of the deceptive guise that clouds the perceptions of fans and, sometimes, friends, alike. A better paraphrasing of the broad "vile" would be "incorrect perception." It's an "empty" view. The perception is not god anymore because this song, Around the Fur, was made to topple the false god. What the speaker really wants is for us to see him without guise or shroud. We need to come "around the fur" to do that. The speaker then questions himself: "should I ignore the fashion or go buy the book?" Should he buy into the look? Give into the veil that seperates him from from the commoner? Fashion, I think depicts the observable aspects of a person's attitude. Of course, he answers his own question anyway. Ahhhh, the "prostitute." This explains his freedom with his image. Letting everyone see him as he really is, in essence, prostituting his visage to the masses. He doesn't want his career to "die" in the wake of his true face becasue he "loves her" i.e. showing the true side.

amazing song, it really speaks to me. first of all, the 'fur' is the symbol used to represent the upper class of society, those who set the standard of what everyone should be. getting around the fur is CHINO's way of telling us to see past the facade, because most of the time the people that set the standard dont make the standard the way they are. in other words, no one is naturally what they should be, those we look up to and strive to be like are only acting out their lives, it's not who they really are. the vile CHINO talks about is the idea of becoming those people, and when it's emprty, it's not real, it's just a covering or an outer layer, like a fur coat. the 'prostitue' is that which is socially unacceptable. she's on the floor because she is in hiding, the same way people hide what is socially unacceptable about themselves. CHINO's cries for someone to 'speak' is a sarcastic call for someone to tell him what he should be and how he should act. finally, near the end of the song, CHINO confeses that he doesn't want it anyway. the part of the song where he says "CUZ I LOVE HER" talks about his love for his real, true self. that's possibly the most important part of the song, ecause the whole point of it is be what you are and not what you should be.

This is most likely their most easy-to-understand song in my opinion. This song is about doing things that you shouldn't. I.E. Smoking, Drinking, Sex, sleeping, etc. etc. You have to look at the verse and the chorus as two seperate people. The Verse is saying "Hey, you do too many things that you shouldn't do." The Chorus is saying "Your probably right, but I'm not going to stop, maybe next time I will".

I think this song is more about when everyone else is so eager to criticize you for what they think you shouldn’t do (which is not the best way to bring someone’s attention to a mistake they’re making) instead of looking at everything else that you’re doing right...right? The kind of thing that makes you wanna say “ You’re probably right this time, but i don’t want to listen! I believe this song is about love and separation from that girl you love. Its so hard to figure out what Chino really means, metaphorically. This is my favorite song by them and in my life as well. What it means to me is that you love this girl so much, but you have left her, but you want her back so bad, that even with a new lover, you would do anything for her to become your original girlfriend, hence the lyrics "I dressed you in her clothes." And the most powerful lyric of the song, "It feels good to know your all mine, now drive me far." What I interpret, is that he is happy with both relationships, but still misses his 1st, its one of the most moving songs I know ... but Chino writes "My lyrics don't have specific meanings, its just feelings that I feel at that time."

One of the deftones' best songs, but i could'nt tell if it's my favorite song, anyway, it obviously talks about a relationship that's not possible. i can identify myself in this song a lot in this period of my life. i just moved to the states about 3 weeks ago from italy, and i left this girl... anyway, as i was saying, this song is very sad and awfully touching. i probably interpret it this way because i'm in another country i dont wanna be in, because of my political and social(istic) ideas and because i miss this girl and all my friends back in italy. THIS TOWN DON'T FEEL MINE: he doesn't feel the place he where he is now is the right one simply because his girl isn't there. BUT I'M FAST TO GET AWAY: here, chino prolly is saying that he won't be in that place for too long before he sees his girl again, he's saying that soon he'll meet her again. it won't take long for him to run away to his girl. I'VE DRESSED YOU IN HER CLOTHES: this verse is kind of confusing, but i think he prolly means that maybe he "dresses" this new girl in his old (but important) girl. the old girl meant a lot to him, and now that he found this new and even more important girl, she's the one that took the old girl's place. i read the rest of the interpretations and i saw that a lot of people think that chino is NOW with another girl but he still cares and loves this one. its a good interpretation but i think all interpretations are influenced by personal experiences and memories, just as art is. NOW DRIVE ME FAR (AWAY---> in the next verse): he just wants his girl to take him away from everything, he wants to run away with her, he wants her to drive him away from everything and everyone that surrounds them,but he wants her to take care of the run away. i imagine him (or me in this case, coz its pretty much what i want her to do) sleeping in the car while she's driving and looking over me while i'm sleeping. IT FEELS GOOD TO KNOW YOU'RE MINE: he feels extremely overwhelmed because he feels that someone really cares about him, and that person completely belongs to him, and this just makes him feel in heaven. it makes him feel secure and protected. he feels rich now, because he owns a treasure. I DON'T CARE WHERE JUST FAR: he just doesn't give a fuck where the girl is supposed to take him, he just wants to go away from everything, he just wants to be with her, alone...and that's how i interpret this beautiful deftones song. and if i didn't do it right, sorry chino, i did my best, or maybe i didnt but, as i said i'm very influenced by my present physical and sentimental status.

After watching the video, I think this song is about the "sexual drive". Sexual relations with the woman, he talks about, are so passionate that it gives him a feeling of comfort. When he makes love to her it's like nothing else in the world matters like he just drove away from his troubles. Almost reminds me of a few Nine Inch Nail's songs where Trent talks about being so content during sex that every trouble just fades away. Love is wonderful, stressfull, and confusing, but making love it's almost like a therapy.

The song is obviously about the close bands they were friends with. (Korn, Limp Bizkit). That's around the time when they changed there styles and became MTV stars. When you hear the song think about korn and limp bizkits paths that they chose to go and how they kinda steered off the same track genre that they shared with deftones. I'm from nor cal myself and those lyrics when I heard them for the first time explained how I felt towards korn and limp bizkit. I think this song is about not-really-reply love. To my mind Chino loves this girl but she uses him and he can’t really realize this. This TIMING IS EVERYTHING, IN THE BED, she uses him for sex and then SHE’LL SLEEP FOR HOURS, TO KEEP AWAY, it seems to me that she wants to be leave alone and not talk to Chino or something like that. And he won’t see that fact, because he loves her. NOW I KNOW THAT YOU, LOVE ME, THANK GOD THAT YOU, LOVE AT ALL, it sounds a little bit ironic. Like: I love you, like I love my cat. She can love him but it’s a love that she could also give another person or thing and he’s very unsure. I think that Dai The Flu is about a girl that Chino is in love with but she's playing hard to get or something so he isn't sure if she has any feelings for him. In secret, the girl does like him and is waiting for him to make his move. But since Chino's confused about the whole situation, he doesn't do anything about it. When he talks about "the bed," he is using sex as a metaphor for a romantic relationship, and how if it doesn't feel like the perfect time to ask her out, he is unable to do it out of self-doubt. This is Chino's excuse when the girl gets impatient and quits talking to him; when their "joint" gets "dislocated." It's then that Chino realizes that this girl liked him, because if she didn't, there would be no reason for her to quit talking to him. This is where the line "Believe the sting proves heart to me" comes in because the 'sting' is when the girl left and it hurt him, and it proved to him that she really was in love with him. When he says "Thank God that you love at all," he's being sarcastic towards how she hid her feelings for him, and since she was playing hard to get, it was hard for him to think that she was capable of loving anybody. The part of the song where he says "What a surprise, I was right here, going off and going on," means that it should have been pretty easy to tell that he liked her, but when he was around her, he put on a mask too, looking cool on the surface but being really nervous on the inside.

For me dai the flu is a song about a relationship that had a lot of tough moments and that relation was always ending and starting like they weren't sure of what they really feel, until some day when both understood that the love they felt was real and is such a beautiful and important thing so he thanks God for the love that she fells about him!! and the relationship that once was such a strange thing with no deep feelings is now the best thing in the world for him!! they discover that the love and happiness that once were so far for theme to reach are just there in their harts but maybe they really had to pass trough a hard experience to know it...and now...it's perfect!!! maybe i have these interpretation because i had these experience...and these song floats in my mind when i think about it

'Headup' is actually about Max Cavalera's son, Dana Wells, who was murdered. Dana's murderers still haven't been caught to this day. Dana was a good friend of the Deftones (obviously, as 'Around The Fur' is actually dedicated to Dana's memory). Most of the lyrics are actually excerpts from Dana's diary, including one line which stuck out: "Walk Into This World, With Your Head Up High."

well.. despite all that has been said about this song, I can't help but see this girl like a movie or a pop star and that's why she makes him think about girls, money and new clothes. Popstars are a product to be sold like any other goods and its ways of attraction easily afect people, making them dream about 30 nights of violence and sugar with them: it's the natural answer from your feelings. In this case there's something more in it and you see it in the way she talks about her: she's not just a regular popstar, he has been with her or at least he dreamed about it so deeply that he could feel it like if it has actually happened. As a popstar this girl is just a fake: a bore who doesn't notice him..; and although feeling tired of proving his love, he is still afected by her, she still moves him like a movie or like music..

On Mx......the name doesn't say anything about the song, really. true, it could be M being the first initial, and x representing an anonymous person. But then again, i do beleive that its putting us into the shoes of a person that has no care for women or the sexuality with them. because what kind of person would stab (im assuming, based on "closer to the lung") a girl, and then push her over a rail to let her die, if they cared for women at all? i once read a book by dean koontz called Dragon Tears and there is a character in there that seeks no sexual or emotional pleasure from women at all, but rather from the pain and suffering of others. Maybe Chino read the book and decided to write about that character, and what it must be like to be like him. Mx is one of those mysterious songs that you really have to think hard about to understand. It could also be pointing to the way teenagers often work in relationships. "i love you for your physical nature, but i can't stand the relationship part, but i'll be damned if i couldn't want to be with you" and then after a while, one person in the relationship hurts the other, there is where the representation of "closer to the lung, shove her over the railing" comes in, because of the hurt. and yet the teens move on to hurt the next "victim" and also, when chino says "you think its so easy...." i think that kind of can represent the adult close to the teen in the relationship. saying something like: "you think its so easy when you start, and yet its harder than it looks to keep things together." so yes, it has something to do with relationships, but in a deeper sense than just a personal story of chino's or a person chino knows.
